FAQs

What is Openomy?
Openomy is an online file system. You can store files on Openomy and access them from any computer. Openomy organizes files and users via tags (as opposed to folders). You can choose to keep your files guarded by Openomy, or allow certain outside applications (of your choice) to do new and interesting things with your data.

How much storage do I receive?
Currently, all storage is 1gb. The plan is to increase this in the future. Let us know what you think is fair.

How do I develop applications using the APIs?
Our new API is a very simple REST-based API. First you'll want to create an application and then you'll want to read the documentation at http://api.openomy.com.

What's the cost?
Openomy is completely free for now. In the future there will be an additional premium membership, in exchange for some nice extras. The APIs (i.e. creating applications) are also completely free to use, but a similar structure may one day appear as well. This would likely be limited to commercial applications.

Are there any example applications?
Yes! Maurice Codik developed a Ruby on Rails application that lets you publish your tags as RSS feeds. Learn more.

Who can I contact about Openomy?
You can contact Ian Sefferman about most inquiries, or if it's about developing applications using the APIs, contact Maurice Codik. Our emails are on our blogs.

Is there a place I can find updates and news about Openomy?
We created an official Openomy blog to provide a single place for announcements and updates, so that the information isn't split between our two blogs.

Are you guys down for maintenance?
You can find information about maintenance, bugs, and other general status things at the new, official Openomy Status blog.
